It is easy to forget to change your furnace filter, but not doing so could have a negative impact on your homes air quality. A clean filter helps stop particles such as dust, bacteria and pet dander from re-entering your home.
A clogged filter also makes it more difficult for heated air to cycle back into your home causing your furnace to run longer and harder, costing you money.
We recommend changing the standard furnace filter every 30 days.
A great way to conserve energy is with a programmable thermostat. A programmable thermostat allows you to regulate your homes temperature throughout the day. The thermostat can be set to reduce the homes temperature while you are at work and increase it just before you get home. Also a reduction in the temperature at bedtime will save energy.
To maximize your energy savings, the programmed temperatures should vary by no more than 6 degrees.
Many people feel they are saving energy by closing dampers in rooms they do not use frequently; this could be harmful to your furnace over time.
It is not recommended to close off more than 15% of your homes dampers. If you close more than this overtime you could damage the furnace controls.
